Abstract
General anesthesia is the act of making the client unconscious with drugs and can be reversible to start surgery/surgery or other procedures. Anxiety is a response to a threat whose source is unknown, internal, vague or conflictual. Therapeutic communication is consciously planned, purposeful communication and its activities are centered on reducing anxiety/calming the client. This study aims to identify the effect of therapeutic communication on anxiety levels in clients who will undergo general anesthesia at Persahabatan Hospital with a pre-experimental design in February 2015 with a sample of 58 people. The results of the study showed that there was an effect of therapeutic communication on the anxiety level of clients who would undergo anesthesia P value (0.000) or P < 0.5. The results of this study are expected to be an input that can be a reference for policy makers (stakeholders), especially to be used as evaluation material in changes or strategies in the management of anxiety of clients who will undergo anesthesia.
