Abstract
The nurse anesthetists have 3 scopes of work: the pre anesthesia, intra anesthesia, and post anesthesia. The higher the workload experienced by the anesthesiologist, the less optimal anesthesia services will be received by the patients. Aim This study aimed to describe the workload of nurse anesthetists in the operating room of Merauke General Hospital. Method This research was a descriptive case study with multiple case study designs involving 4 respondents. The data collection was conducted through interview and observation. Results The respondents’ average working hours fell under the category of overworked. The education level of the respondents in this study was varied from Diploma III to Bachelor of Nursing with anesthesia training, Diploma III of Nursing Anesthesiology and Diploma IV of Nursing Anesthesiology. This study also revealed that the number of nurse anesthetists needed in the Merauke Hospital was actually 15 people, thus with only 4 people available, all these 4 respondents experienced such a heavy workload. The nurse anesthetists in the operating room of Merauke General Hospital experience a heavy workload due to the lack of nurse anesthetists in the hospital. Therefore, it is highly expected that there will be more nurse anesthetists available, in addition to the current number of nurse anesthetists in the hospital.
